Medina is an affluent city on the Eastside that is home to just under 3,000 residents. With the second highest per-capita income of any community in Washington, Medina is home to many impressive mansions and estates, most notably the waterfront compound of Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Moreover, the area is bordered by, Lake Washington, Clyde Hill, and Hunts Point.

History

Medina, settled in 1891 and platted for home building in 1914 was originally spelled “Medeena”, after the Saudi Arabian city of the same name. The lowering of Lake Washington in 1917, gifted settle residents with newly uncovered beachfront property. Encouraged by the arrival the direct ferry service, the town’s first mansions were built in the 1920s. Ultimately, the area was nicknamed the area Washington’s “Gold Coast”. It has remained an exclusive neighborhood for some of the area’s wealthiest residents.

Points of Interest

Medina is only home to a few businesses. Thus, residents are attracted to the secluded nature of the neighborhood, and easy access to all Bellevue and Kirkland have to offer. Additionally, the neighborhood’s abundant greenery has earned it the title of “Tree City, USA” from the Arbor Foundation since 2006.
